For some time I have been curious about exploring other art mediums. I was drawn to textiles and became interested in using drum materials that were no longer usable and would otherwise be discarded. I began visiting local drummers and asking for their old drumheads, broken sticks, blown out mallets, warped cymbals, and cracked shells. I enjoy combining elements of drum materials; metal, plastic, wood, cloth, and animal hides with mixed yarns, wool, and leather with exploratory colour combinations. I started creating these pieces in 2017 and my creations have been well received. I love to see these material live on in a new art form, and feel the music that was once played on these drum heads lives on.

As a creative person moving through the world, I see potential in many discarded objects. Seeing the stacks of used drum heads at jam spaces or piles of broken sticks getting tossed into the garbage, inspired me to give them a second life. I love the aesthetic of drum materials, circles, metal rings, felt mallets, wooden hoops, oxidized finger prints on cymbals, hundreds of strike patterns on used drum heads, splintered sticks. It fascinates me to think about what kind of music was played, who was the drummer, what did the listeners experience, what kind of technique was used, what genre of music was played.

It is fun to combine elements of drum materials; metal, plastic, wood, cloth, and animal hides with mixed yarns and wools with exploratory colour combinations. A recent addition to this visual fibre art practice has to paint the drum heads and then incorporating those painted heads into the weavings.

I also started doing Art Jams, where I collaborated with other artists, inviting fashion designers, painters, ceramic artists to join in a free creative playtime. These collaborations often led to furthering my art practice exploring other mediums.

My art has been featured at multiple music festivals, including Woodstove, Unwritten Weekend as well as cafes and group art shows.
